Today we talked about Chris Van Allsburg and the illustrations he put together by the mysterious Harris Burdick. Here is a link to the web page with more information as well as stories written by students inspired by his beautiful work. Harris Burdick
Cst. Adams was in today to begin the DARE program. What did you think about it? Tell me what you think you will learn during this program? What do you want to learn about?
Don't forget to check out the math page. I added a couple of games about quadrilaterals! Hello Students! I am excited to be back and ready to start. We only have a few more weeks before we switch to intensive french. I have a lot planned for us. We are beginning our mystery unit and going to continue working with homophones (see-sea). In math we will finish up with shape and space for a bit and start multiplication (34 x 15). Keep practicing those facts, both multiplication and division...we are beginning our one minute timed tests of all the facts mixed together.
I had a great break. It was nice to relax and spend time with my family. I went to see The Muppets movie over the holidays. I liked it because it reminded me of being your age. I like Kermit the Frog and my ultimate favorite was The Chef! I can't wait to see you all tomorrow. Write about your holiday, Tomorrow Mrs. Lewis will host her annual Turkey Dinner for her students at Inglewood School. It is a tradition that most staff and students look forward to every year. What can you remember that you love about previous dinners? I love the smell in the school! SO delicious! Is there anything memorable that you can share? I can see Mrs. Lewis now in the tiara....The Queen of Gravy as she as known on Turkey Dinner Day!
We were very lucky today to be able to listen to the author, Robert Rayner speak to our classes. He entertained us with a couple of songs about his book characters. He read an excerpt from a couple of his books. It was facinating to hear him bring the characters to life. The last part of the session was spent answering questions about writing. What did you most enjoy about his presentation?
Mr. Rayner has written 15 books. What is your favorite book you have read written by him? If you have not had an opportunity to read one of his books yet, check it out in the library! This week we began persuasive writing. The challenge was to write an essay on.. Why There Should Not Be Homework or If There Should Be Homework! You all met the challenge with fantastic writing pieces. In fact, the students will get no homework from me for 1 week because of their great persuasive abilities. Those of you who convinced me there should be homework are getting a little extra! I'll be honest, there were not many of you who wished for more. I think we are off to a great start. What other topics would be fun to write about? What would you like to persuade someone about?
Hello Students!
I was exploring on the internet last night and found this great new site. In fact, we can thank Mr. Carr. He is using it with his class that I though you should see it too. It has interesting news for kids! I hope you like it as much as I did. Let me know what you think. Teaching Kids News By the way, I added a couple new number pattern games on our math page. This week we celebrated Remembrance Day at Inglewood School. Today we had our Remembrance Day Ceremony. Our music teacher, Mrs. Molloy put together the program. It was perfect and moving. The entire school sang a few songs and the choir performed. All the teachers at the school are so proud of you!
Cpl. Andrew Ward and Veteran, Mr. Scott were in attendance. Mr. Scott presented Inglewood School with an award for our contributions to the poppy sales. Cpl. Ward made a presentation and showed slides. What were you thinking about looking at the slides? The title of his presentation was 'How Will you Remember?" My question is, How WILL you remember? There are ceremonies in the city Harbour Station as well here in Grand Bay-Westfield at River Valley Middle School. Hello Students!
Did you see the self portraits I added to our site? What do you think? I love them, You all did a fantastic job. Well Done Grade 5! I also added the science project to the website. If you forget it at school, you can get it here. Well it's almost the end of the months. We have been in school for 8 weeks. Tell what you think about grade 5 so far. Do you like it? If you could change one thing in our classroom, what would it be? Be serious, you can't say no more homework or tests! I made a couple of changes to the website. I now have a Homework Notes tab. I put all the games for math in the Math tab. (I also included a few new games.) There is now a Science tab too. It has the link to the interactive solid and liquid activity from last week.
How did you like science today? We have been looking at solids and liquids and their properties. I liked today's experiment with solids and the tests we did on fabric, sea salt, a rubber ball and a magnet. What solid did you find most interesting and why? |
